CHARLES HOWARD STARR II “Lc”
Lc has a wealth of knowledge that comes along with being a third generation monument craftsman. He started working full time with his father in his early twenties starting with the basics of hand crafting stones and setting in the cemeteries. He then advanced to design and sales. Lc is currently the Vice President of Southern Monument Builders. Lc views serving the community not only as a business, but as part of his personal witness as well. Other than his love for Christ, his love and devotion is to his family is apparent to all that know him. He has been married to his wife, Beth, for 20 years and they have six children. The oldest has recently started working full-time with Lc learning the basics of hand crafting monuments.
Learning under his parents, Howard and Gwen Starr, Mike has over 30 years experience in the monument business. His father began Anderson County Monument Works in 1977, which is the home office and production warehouse for the Martus Stone locations. “Uncle Mike” oversees the sandblasting and construction of the monuments, and is a true artist, especially when it comes to 3D shape carving designs. In his time away from work, Mike enjoys spending his evenings at his lake in Elkhart catching fish, watching the ducks, and drinking Dr. Pepper.
Sam, originally from Grapeland, TX, has been a part of the Elkhart staff since March 2009. Through the years she has developed a broad knowledge of the monument business from office responsibilities, customer service, sales, production, and design.
Sam specializes in the Monu-Cad design and laser etching of the monuments. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi. With a background in photography, she also oversees the production of all the portraits for the monuments, ensuring the best quality results.
The MartusStone.com website is also managed by Samantha. All the promotional brochures, design books and advertisements are designed by her.
Another artistic quality is Sam’s musical ability. Her love of singing is a huge part of Sam’s life. Growing up singing Bluegrass music with her family band has influenced her involvement in leading music at her church today.
Fitch Memorials Manager
John has been in the monument business since 1988 and has owned Fitch Memorials 25 years before merging and joining with Martus Stone in 2014. With almost 30 years experience, John has done every aspect of the business. He has become a well-known artist in the east Texas area with his drawing ability and skill in creating masterpiece quality work. He has won several awards for his artwork using the Monu-Cad system in contests held across the US and Canada. John has been married to his wife, Dee Ann, for over 25 years and they have two children, Claire and Ryan. John enjoys being the General Manager of Fitch Memorials in Mt. Pleasant and keeping the family name going in the tradition of the Fitch quality reputation. When he is not at work, he enjoys fishing and traveling with his family, as well as singing and playing the mandolin in the Pleasant Mt. Boys Band.
Shop Production Specialist
David joined his family in the monument business in Sept. 2004. He is the brother-in-law of Charles Starr, Sr. and has been an asset to the sandblasting and production of the monuments at Anderson County Monument Works in Elkhart. You can always count on Dave to be on top of things and be the first one at the shop, and ready to get the work started in the mornings. Along with his skills running the sandblast booths, he is a skilled mechanic and can fix just about anything. He is our go-to when something breaks unexpectedly. Dave can always get production back up and running. On his time away from work, Dave enjoys spending time with his wife and granddaughter. He frequently visits his favorite fishing holes, and never forgets to stop by the shop to show off his catches.
